Aspiring Adventures is about living the life and running the trips we aspired to when we became adventure guides: authentic, a little bit off the beaten path, flexible and intimate.
On Aspiring trips we hike, bike, kayak, swim, dive, eat, drink, dance, and play our way through an eclectic range of destinations, engaging with the environment, the culture, local people and daily life, as well as the headline attractions. We’re about putting you in the picture, not looking at it through a bus window.
People of all ages and levels of physical ability come on holiday with us. Many have travelled extensively but never joined a group tour before. If you travel to get inside a place, beyond the cultural clichés and postcard moments, and if you’re willing to risk stepping outside your comfort zone now and then, our tours are for you.
As adventure tour people, we can’t help but love Peru to extremes; it offers a diversity of adventure travel opportunities that defies belief.
Hiking the Inca trail and Machu Picchu will never go out of style, but there’s so much more to Peru in general and Cusco in particular. High and low jungle, rafting and biking, world-class cuisine, trekking to undisturbed ruins, authentic cultural interchange throwing pots and chewing coca with Quechua-speaking locals: all within surprisingly easy reach of the must-see sights.
It has been my first experience with a pre-planned trip, and I must say I really enjoyed every minute of it (and have already recommended it to my parents). The biking was well thought and gave the option for more difficult and challenging terrain to the more skilled bikers while still giving me, a first time rider, the ability to learn the 'trade' on the fly. The archaeological sites were wonderful too, and built up from simple to Machu Picchu in a great way that introduced us to Incan style and history.

Over years guiding and managing small and large tour companies, Steve Wilson and Katy Shorthouse worked out that small is better when it comes to running great trips.
You benefit with small groups, flexible itineraries, personalised service, and handpicked adventure guides who are the best in their field. And Steve and Katy benefit by still being able to guide many of the trips themselves. Aspiring’s reason for being is to run great trips for real people: that’s what we love to do!

Selected as one of National Geographic Traveler magazine’s “50 Tours of a Lifetime” in 2014, our Naghol trip takes you deep into the South Pacific islands of Vanuatu.
I have never done a trip with a tour group before and I was pleasantly surprised. To be honest, I had imagined long white buses full of people taking terrible pictures out of windows. I loved that we were a small group, could decide where to go, where to stop, where to eat, etc. This is definitely the way to do it because the trip was more meaningful and personalised and we got to know each other and were able to spend more time with Aldo asking questions and telling stories.
