The trip in detail
We’ll pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco at 8am. From here we’ll drive about one hour to the village of Patabamba where we’ll start walking. The morning’s little-trodden, stunningly scenic hike takes us through farmland, villages, a high Andean pass and a gorge section with original Inca Trail, to the ruin of Huchuy Qosqo. We’ll have time to eat lunch and explore the site before walking down the hill and out to the main Sacred Valley road at Lamay, where our driver awaits to take us to Ollantaytambo. Here we’ll board the train to take a scenic, 1.5 hour ride to Aguas Calientes.
Meals: Lunch and dinner included
Accommodation: Four star hotel in Aguas Calientes
Walking: 15 kilometres (9 miles)
An early start rewards us with sunrise at Machu Picchu – a peak moment for anyone. A spectacular stone city surrounded by incredibly steep, incredibly green mountains, Machu Picchu needs no introduction and is deservedly one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Your trip leader will take you on a guided tour – a necessary start to orient you in this massive site – then there's time to explore the site and some of the surrounding peaks at your own pace before we catch the train back to Ollantaytambo.
Meals: All meals included
Accommodation: Luxury lodgings in the Sacred Valley
There is no better way to experience the lush, eternally springlike Sacred Valley than by biking along its idyllic riverside. Today we’ll saddle up and do just that, cycling “Andean flat” through lush river plain and rustic villages, between two massive mountain ranges dotted with Inca terracing.
If you’re up for it, there’s the opportunity for some single track downhill towards the end of the day, before we drop you back in Cusco to end the trip.
