Medications and vaccinations

Find out what you need to do to take care of your health in Myanmar.

This information is based on our own experience and should only be used as a guideline. We are not medical professionals. You should consult with a travel doctor to discuss your personal requirements.

Myanmar is very backward in terms of access to medications, both prescription and non-prescription.

You should make sure to bring enough of every medication you might use, for your entire stay, with you from home.

There are no legal vaccination requirements to enter Myanmar, but the World Health Organisation does have recommendations for visitors to Myanmar:

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis B

Japanese Encephalitis B

Yellow Fever

The World Health Organisation also recommends these vaccinations, which are covered by childhood vaccination schedules in most countries, for visitors to Myanmar:

Diphtheria

Polio

Tetanus

Rabies

Tuberculosis

Typhoid

We have never heard of any cases of malaria in any of the areas in Myanmar we visit, but you should consult a travel doctor on whether you should take malaria prophylactics.
